"How does it not smell?"

Talkin' 'bout trash...

Back in February, I shared a video to portray the amount of trash we had accumulated in 8 months—it was less than a 13 gal bag.

People have been going crazy over this video even though I had logged out of Instagram shortly after posting it.

A few weeks ago I signed back into my account and was shocked to see the response.

One question I received was, "How does it not smell?"

The secret?

We don't put any food in our trash. It all gets composted!

For the most part, we are a vegetarian household. Personally, I will eat canned tuna or chicken and pepperoni on my pizza. When other types of meat come into the house, it's typically leftovers from a restaurant.

Korean Bokashi

The bokashi compost system allows you to add meat, bones, and dairy into a bucket where it will anaerobically begin to break down before going into the outdoor compost pile.

We've used this process for a few years now and have been pleased with the ease of which it breaks down and is stored. The buckets live in the basement and don't leach a smell.

Using a compost system is one part of how I reduce waste. Come back next week to hear about another!

🌱TIP OF THE WEEK

Start small! If you're trying something new — like reducing your waste — start with something easily achievable.

💚recycle something instead of throwing it away
💚purchase something in glass over plastic
💚make a meal from scratch over going out to eat

It's easier to feel a sense of accomplishment when you start small. 😊

Are you ready? Clearly, they are not. My sweet mother recommended more discussions about in my email newsletters so let's do it! I love talking about composting. Using something that would otherwise go to the landfill to turn back into soil, amazing. What you need to remember about the process is to have more browns (carbon) than greens (nitrogen). Happy 2026! Downtown Lex annual NYE celebration As one year ends and another begins, do you ever find yourself in a reflective space? I'm not one to make resolutions or set goals but I have been trying to navigate what I want my business to look like in 2026. As you may have noticed, weekly emails and actively sharing about my business on social media have take a back seat since beginning a full time job. Here's where I could use your help! I would love if you replied to this email and shared...

Where's the balance? It's snow magical My weekly email habits have fallen off the deep end and are no where to be found. In this season of managing a full time job and having time for anything else, I've sacrificed a lot. The other day, I had the realization that I can't expect myself to do all the things I was doing before I had a full time job. I simply don't have the same amount of time. And that's okay! The morning go by quickly as we rush to get out the door. The evenings are filled with...
